What Soulmate Means by forgetmeforever

Chapter 1

Disclaimer: I don't own. That being said I wish I did.

A/N: This is my first fan fiction that I have actually posted. I hope that it works out and that I actually finish this one because I have an extremely bad habit of not finishing things that I have started (short attention span).

Chapter 1

A young woman sat upon a grassy hill with her head tilted up to the starry night sky. Her slightly wavy black hair swayed gently with the breeze. The stars reflected in her big brown eyes making them seem to sparkle. Anyone who would have happened upon her would have been captivated (except for one very stubborn hanyou) with the sight. And one such person was, or should we say youkai.

Sesshomaru stood off to the side, hidden by the shadows of the woods. His main thought was of how some one could look so frail and yet be so strong of body, mind, and heart. As her time in the feudal era increased so did her ability to defend herself and those she loved. She was able to tell the character of someone so easily and her loyalty to those she considered friends and allies rivaled his own. What a captivating woman she was.

"Lord Sesshomaru, will you please come join me in enjoying the stars?" the young woman asked.

Keeping his mask in place to hide his surprise, he gracefully walked out of his hiding place and sat down beside her. "Miko." he said in his cold monotone voice.

"Kagome. My name is Kagome." she said with resignation. Her name was never going to be said by someone such as him.

"Hn."

"Eloquent as always I see." Kagome replied while trying to keep back a small giggle.

A rumbling growl was the answer to her statement. Unable to keep the laughter back any longer, Kagome let out her giggle which had turned into a low, husky chuckle. Sesshomaru unconsciously closed his eyes and concentrated on her melodious laughter. He doubted he would hear it much from now on. The final battle was near and with it came her unselfish wish and the possibility of Kagome disappearing from this time forever. An unexpected pain accompanied the thought of never seeing Kagome again.

Disgruntled, he pushed the thought to the back of his head to be analyzed at a later date. Another thought came to him though and prompted a question that had haunted him for quite a while, but was never able to ask because of lack of privacy. "Why did you ask me to help you when it went against Inuyasha's explicit wishes?"

Kagome's laughter stopped abruptly but a smile still remained. "Because even though Inuyasha is too prideful to admit it, I'm not. We cannot do this alone. Naraku is too much for just two humans, a hanyou, and a miko. You joining our group tips the balances into our favor."

"Is that all, Kagome?" Sesshomaru asked while staring at the stars.

"Well, no, but that is for another day."

Kagome stood up suddenly saying, "Thank you for your company but I think that this human should turn in for the night. Sleep tight Lord Sesshomaru," she called over her shoulder as she walked back toward the village, Edo.

"And you Kagome."

On her way back to the village, Kagome thought of the conversation she had just had with Sesshomaru. She recalled her answer and knew she was right in inviting Sesshomaru into their little family. 'Now let's just see if the two who really are related can actually get along.'

A/N: Flames are welcome but constructive criticism would be even more appreciated. And of course praise is my favorite thing. Review and Rate please.
