It has come to my attention that DeviantART is currently having some issues with viruses on their site. While it has also been stated that they have the problem under control, it would be wise for everyone if at all possible to use a virus scan when downloading artwork there

You're likely catching them from the ads rather than the site itself. I highly recommend you get Adblock if you surf with Firefox. It also speeds up browsing a LOT.

yeah I figured. but still haven't gone back. I've never used adblock. aside from on ff. net. is it good to use when you download the plugin?

Deviantart has ads on it? I don't ever remember seeing ads, but I hardly ever download anything from there anyway. DA seems to have a lot of problems with viruses. I wonder why... *shrugs*

The site won't show ads if you have a DA account and are logged into your account. Other than that, I'd also play it safe until that matter is resolved.

So far, I haven't gotten any problems with the virus~ But to be safe, everyone please be careful while visiting the site until the issue has been COMPLETELY resolved.

I've been using my dads laptop and it stuffed up a few weeks ago, he said it must be one of the sites I was on, and that week is was on dA for hours! Now I know why it stuffed up And Mmy home computers blown too

Actaully I got a trojan from there just last week from just clicking on a pic! Brought up a weird window. And then later changed my brower icon for sites, including this one to a diviant art one. O_O` (virus scanner said the type was a browser trojan.)

Thus I'm a bit wary to go back. If they say it's fine now, I'll check it out again in a month. The good news in all this is I learned of free software that got ride of it. AVG and Adaware. Adaware actually was the one to get ride of the trojan. Higly recomended!

I'm always on DA and I never run into the viruses. At least, I haven't yet.

We shall be virus free for as long as we're able. XD

I don't have an account on DA, so forgive me if I'm wrong: I thought only accounts of people who subscribe and pay money don't have ads while regular accounts still have ads.

I surf with adblock anyhow, which eliminates all but textual google ads that I can easily ignore. If you're getting things by clicking on somebody's art, then the person who posted the picture might have done something malicious.

I have been on Deviant for about a couple of weeks now and I haven't experienced any viruses. But I still keep an eye out for them.

A couple months ago, Right when i got my new laptop, i was on DA and i seen a tiny shield in my tool bar, i thought nothing of it, besides that it would pop up and say "You have a virus" I got off the internet, ran a scan, and it said nothing was wrong. I went back onto DA and a screen popped up, this virus wouldn't let me onto the internet PERIOD. It would pop up every five minutes. I had to reset my whole laptop, documents, pictures, EVERYTHING. But luckily, i got it off, and it's stayed off. So, cha. I know the pain of these things. I almost threw my laptop out the window because I was so angry

You're right that only if you have a subscribed account you can surf ad-free. I'm a premium member with both my accounts. I use dA all the time and have never had any problems with the site. By the same token, Dreamish (my best friend), almost got a virus from it once. It did the whole fake-scan that goes way too fast to be a real scan. She closed it before it did anything and ran a scan on her computer. I'm always careful.

Every night I have a scan that runs. I have two antivirus softwares on my computer--Webroot and McAffe. Webroot (the basic package) specifically targets spy cookies and malware, things that the big-name companies often overlook. I will never own another computer withou Webroot on it. It's saved my poor laptop and desktop time after time.
