Chapter 1

Where Will You Go

This was just another day. The group spent hours following rumors of the jewel shards, finding nothing but dead ends and power-hungry demons. Now, the sun was falling towards the horizon, and Sango and Miroku, and Shippo were setting up camp.

A little ways from the camp, Inuyasha and Kagome were arguing.

You're too important for anyone

There's something wrong with everything you see

"Why won't you just tell me what's wrong with you?" Kagome pleaded with the stubborn half-breed.

Inuyasha sat on the branch of a nearby tree, doing his beast to ignore the hot-tempered priestess below.

"Did something happen when I left to buy food?"

Inuyasha huffed.

"Like anything those worthless people said would upset me!"

Kagome, frustrated from nearly thirty minutes of interrogating her moody friend, stomped her foot and glared up into the tree.

"Then why are you brooding?"

"Dammit, woman! Leave me alone!"

Inuyasha jumped down from his tree and faced Kagome.

"I don't need you always pestering me. Just mind your own business."

Inuyasha turned his back to Kagome.

However did you manage to push away

"Don't you dare walk away from me, Inuyasha!"

Kagome grabbed his arm and spun him around.

"I am your friend. Tell me what's got you so upset."

Inuyasha glared at her.

So afraid that anyone will hate you

You pretend you hate them first

"I don't need your pity, wench!" he exclaimed as he yanked his arm out of her grasp. "I was doing fine for years without it!"

Kagome took a step back, shocked and hurt. She bowed her head.

"Of course, Inuyasha. I was only trying to help."

She walked past him, barely brushing his arm with her shoulder.

"Wait, Kagome. I didn't mean-"

Inuyasha was cut off when Kagome turned and faced him with unshed tears in her eyes.

"It's okay, Inuyasha. I get it. You'll tell me if and when you're ready to."

"That's not..."

Inuyasha wasn't sure what to say.

But you can't refrain from everything

Kagome walked back to camp, Inuyasha not far behind her.

"Sango, can I borrow Kirara?"

Sango looked up Kagome with concerned eyes.

"Sure. What for?"

Kagome gave her a small reassuring smile.

"I'm gonna go home for a little while."

Inuyasha's head snapped up.

"What? But we just started looking for the jewel shards! You can't leave yet!"

Kagome glared at Inuyasha. Sango and Miroku gave each other concerned glances as the tension grew once more.

"Maybe some time by yourself will show you how much I do for you. And then, maybe, just maybe, you'll trust me enough to tell me what's bothering you!"

I'm so sick of speaking words

Kagome walked over to Kirara, who had already transformed, and mounted onto her back.

"Later, everyone!"

Kirara took to the air, and Kagome could still hear Inuyasha yelling for her to come back.

Inuyasha slumped against a tree once Kirara was out of sight.

"What did you say to upset Kagome so much?"

Is it clear enough

Inuyasha jumped into the tree, ignoring Sango's question, and tried to replay everything Kagome said.

Through the trees of the forest, Inuyasha caught a glimpse of a soul stealer.

"Kikyo," he whispered before darting after it.

Shippo looked up, having heard Inuyasha

"Hey, Inuyasha! Where do you think you're going?"

I can hear you when you whisper

But you can't even hear me screaming

Shippo got angry when Inuyasha didn't even look back.

"Grr! Come on, Sango, Miroku! Let's follow him!"

Shippo bounded off with Sango and Miroku scampering up to follow.

"Wait, Shippo!"

"Come on! Inuyasha went to see Kikyo!"

And where will you go

With no one left to save you from yourself

The group burst into a large field to find Inuyasha and Kikyo facing against Naraku.

"How kind of you, Kikyo. Now I can be rid of you all at once!"

Naraku shot a tentacle at Kikyo, who barely dodged by rolling to the left.

Inuyasha jumped forward.

"This is the end for you, Naraku!"

I realize you're afraid

Sango threw Hirakstu and rushed onto the battlefield.

"Wait for me!"

Shippo took two steps before he was grabbed from behind.

"Ahh!"

The battle continued, no one taking notice of Shippo screaming.

But you can't reject the whole world

As Naraku called forth his demon minions, Miroku joined the battle and released his wind tunnel.

"You will all die!" Naraku shot tentacle after tentacle at Inuyasha and Kikyo while Miroku and Sango took on the demon horde.

"Not today, you sick bastard!"

You won't escape

You can't escape

Inuyasha hacked through yet another tentacle.

"Wind scar!"

Naraku's robes parted to show Kanna, her crystal blue eyes focused on nothing, holiday her mirror in Inuyasha's direction.

"Everybody move!"

Without question, everybody else scattered as Inuyasha's attack was thrown back at them.
