Fury and Fright

"I've been here for so long,I doubt my family will remember me at all." Kagome thought to herself.

The group had been traveling nonstop in their never ending quest to gather more of the shards and defeaat Naraku.

Now they were back at Kaede's village,taking a much deserved break from the battles and shard hunting.

Kagome was walking through Inuyasha's forest,remebering when she first laid eyes on the brash hanyou,then she remembered the last battle they had waged.

It was against a rather large water demon,who had an astounding sic shards in its possession.

Kagome had sensed the shards coming from the murky grey waters of a vast lake.

Before any of them could bat an eye,a pale blue/green water demon emerged from the clouded depths,swinging its tail wildly.

It had stopped about mid-thrash,the shards around Kagome's neck calling out to it,the beast swung its bluish green tail once more,sending Kagome flying over into the far side of the pond where she became entrapped in the thick mud.

The beast was preparing to lunge at her and devour her whole when an enraged Inuyasha shot forward with Tetsusaiga.

The great beast swerved out of the hanyou's path and then slammed itself forcibly upon him as he came down out of the air,seemingly crushing him to death.

High above,Sango and Miroku rode astride Kirara to get a bird's eye view of their opponent.

Upon seeing Inuyasha being squashed under the weight of the demon,Sango coaxed Kirara into a sharp nose dive.

Miroku lurched forward against Sango's lithe body and momentarily entertained thought the of fondly groping her backside,but then thought better of the offending action for fear of being unceremoniously dumped into the not so inviting waters below them.

Before they could reach the monster,its head flailed back and an agonizing howl erupted from its mouth as a bright light seared its way through the beast's middle,effectively slicing it in half.

A second later Inuyasha burst forth,exploding through the tissue and muscle,sending skin,fat and parts flying everywhere.

Kirara landed just the opposite side of the now blood streaked lake,Sango and Miroku jumping down to witness in horror,their friend in his full demon form.

Inuyasha was without Tetsusaiga,looking ravenous and positively wicked as he set about oblitherating the remainder of the water demon.

Kagome had managed to drag herself out of the constricting much and upon standing up she observed pieces and blood everywhere.

"Aaaaaccckkkk,I was lying in this gross junk?!"

She was making her way over to Miroku and Sango when she noticed that they were both staring in a dumbstruck fashion at something off to the right and that Kirara had her teeth bared,growling ferociously.

She turned and saw the demonic Inuyasha,standing in the bloody grey water,covered in blood and gore,grinning viciously at his handywork.

She knew there was only one way to stop him,so she caustiously began to appraoch him despite the fervent warnings of her friends.

"Inuyasha..." She began tenatively.

Upon hearing her voice,Inuyasha turned,eyes red,fangs still bared in a twisted smile,he launched himself at her.

"SIT BOY!"

A microsecond later Inuyasha was lying face down in the bloody muck of the lake and the remnants of his kill.

Sighing audibly,the remaining three gathered him up and dragged him ashore.

Kagoem was abruptly brought out of her reverie by a slithery soul collector sailing past her,female soul in tow.

Kagome knew of only one person they could be going to....Kikyo.

Kagome,against her better judgement,decided to see why Kikyo and her soul collectors would be so near the village and in the forest.

She waded through the dense under growth of the forest at a hurried pace,keeping up as best she could til she came to a small clearing where she spied Kikyo.

Kikyo stood,bathed in eerie blue light,soul collectors

drifting to and fro around her form,but there was someone else there with her,holding her,saying things to her.

A pair of fluffy ears and silvery white hair gave the person away,it was Inuyasha.

Once again he had come to Kikyo behind Kagome's back,once again he was in a desperate embrace with the undead priestess.

Kagome's heart caught in her chest at the mere sight,but she remained still for fear of both of them discovering her presence.

"Inuyasha...." Kikyo began as she laid a cold hand on his cheek,"Do you love me,do you still wish to be with me?"

"I want nothing more than to be with you forever Kikyo...and I still love you,I've always loved you."

"And what of my reincarnation,what is she to you?"

Kikyo deliberately cut her eyes to where she knew Kagome was hiding,smiling in satisfaction that Kagome had taken her bait.

"Kagome isn't you Kikyo,she never will be,I'll never love her like I do you."

Inuyasha's confession stabbed Kagome directly in the heart,the tears threatened to spill down her cheeks,but she forced them back.

Kikyo then pushed herself out of Inuyasha's grasp,becoming encircled by her soul collectors,and drifting off into the sky above with an evil smile splayed on her lips.

A small gasp from Kagome jolted Inuyasha out of his dazed state,he turned to see the pain stricken look on Kagome's face and he knew instantly that she had witnessed the whole scenario.

Kagome then turned and began hastily walking away from him,thoughts swirling in her head.

"Why did I ever fall for him?" she thought forlornly.

"Kagome...wait..let me explain!" Inuyasha called after her.

Kagome turned suddenly,the angered expression on her face caught the hanyou off guard.

"Why should I let you explain anything?!" Kagome screeched.

"I...errrr..I was just..."

"YOU were out here cavorting with Kikyo behind my back AGAIN.....I'm not an idiot Inuyasha!"

Kagome again turned to walk away,but Inuyasha reached out and caught her by the arm.

"Don't you walk away from me you stupid wench!"

Kagome spun around and her palm connected with Inuyasha's cheek,making a hearyt smack.

The hanyou released her in shock and took a step back.

"Don't you ever touch me again Inuyasha!"

"Kagome..."

"I hope you die sometime soon you ungrateful idiot,then you and that dead whore can screw yourselves silly!

Kagome's words echoed menacingly through the air,frightening the animals as they scattered to the safety of the hidey holes in the forest.

Kagome set out at a furious pace,trudging through the forest named for the one person she could no longer tolerate.

She had stalked into the village,quickly passing Miroku and Sango as she went and ignoring everyone and everything in her path.

Kagome had entered Kaede's hut and set about gathering her belongings in a haphazard manner.

Shippo,fearing the worst,attached himself to Kagome's leg,pleading and begging for her not ot leave.

Uncharacteristically,kagome had swatted the kitsune off her leg and stormed out of the hut without so much as an apologetic glace for her actions.

When Sango approached her to see what had gone wrong,Kagome exploded.

"I hate this place,I hate having to be the protector of that stupid jewel,I hate always having to fight everything and everyone....I'm going home and I'm NOT coming back!"

And with that she stomped out of the village and away from everyone she knew to go back to her time so she could forget everything that had ever transpired in this forsaken era.

She walked off into the sunset,the last rays of the sun casting a firey glow about her stricken form.

Kagome had walked for a fair amount of time and knew she was nearing the well.

"Its about time.." she thought grumpily.

At a low rumbling sound to her right,Kagome attentions on the well faded away to be replaced with a sudden fear.

She glaced around nervously,scanning the trees and brush for any signs of trouble.

She could sense no jewel shards,but still something just wasn't right.

The forest and the field surrounding the well had gone deathly silent,no birds or any other noises could be heard,not even the whispers of the wind.

There was a rustling of tree limbs and and sudden gust of air,the tall whispy grass swayed around Kagome's bare legs,her skirt tossing momentarily.

A moment later,there was a thundering crash and a large ogre looking demon appeared before Kagome.

The giant was a sick purple tint,its eyes black and unreadable,drool frothing at its lips as its lumbered towards Kagome.

Black orbs glared down on her as she began to back away fearfully,but before she had a chance to move the humongous being was on her.

She instinctively reach for her bow and arrows only to find that she had left them back at the village.

"Oh no,I'm going to die!" Kagome thought despairingly.

She screamed helplessly,all the memories of how hateful she was to her truest friends flooding her mind.

Kagome screamed one more time before the massive hand of the ogre closed around her and tightened uncomfortably.

Kagome braced herself for the painful squashing she knew was about to take place.

As she tensed under the powerful muscles of the ogre's hand,she heard a wet thud and the ogre howled,throwing her away from himself.

She hit the ground and rolled several times before coming to a halt against the rough trunk of a nearby tree.

Her head knocked up against the tree trunk and she sank into unconsciousness as her unseen savior mercilessly destroyed the ogre before them.

the unknown hero of the moment then moved towards Kagome's fallen form,glancing down in both fascination and disgust.

"Pathetic girl,can't even defend yourself."

The tall man threw Kagome over his shoulder and made off in the direction of the west.
