What Really Happened by KittenLove

Meeting the Inu Brothers

Kagome paced from one end of the room to the other in just her underclothes, sweating over the heat. It never got this hot back home in Wyoming, but the house here in Texas was exactly the same.

She paused and looked around. Then, amazingly enough, she smiled at her father's home. It was an exact replica of her mother's home, which her father moved out of long ago. She went back to walking back and forth and absent mindedly threw a log in the fire, causing a large feline laying in the corner to get up and hiss in complaint.

"Sorry, Marrebell, habit." Kagome said and pulled her hair up into an awkward bun. The cheetah in question snorted and loped over to her to curl about her legs, giving a purr as it did so.

A panther, slightly older and larger than the cheetah, stood and did the same, Kagome was stressed and they both wanted to help. The two cats were her beloved pets, who the whole town knew to be harmless.

Kagome pet the two cats and sat at a small desk in the corner to do some writing. Oh how very hard it was to actually write to her mother! She didn't want her worried, but then again she didn't want her to come down here to try and help. Her mother would just make things worst. Her mother had sent her a short letter which made it very clear that she was worried, practically forcing Kagome to write.

You alright down there, baby? If you don't answer to this I'm coming down there with an Army!!!

Kagome smiled. Ma was never really good at letting her go off to Texas. She sighed and began to write her letter.

Ma,

I'm fine, well fine as one can be in the position I'm in. You see, I've gotten myself in a bit of trouble again, but I've got Louis Pewter on the way down here to help. He's the peacemaker, so he'll have all the help I'll need. If you come down here with an Army it'd just emberrass the both of us. Dad's gone off to Kentucky to pick up a couple of goats, but broke his foot on the way back, and wont be back for a few weeks.

My meddling instincts got me to try to end a battle between two of my neighbors through matchmaking. I got the youngest of both families together, but I think I just sped things along a little. The way they looked at each other in church was heartbreaking.

I sent each of them a note telling them that the other loved them, and wanted to marry. They did get married, but something went wrong. Cody Rowlie dumped his new wife at her ma's house, which is the RC Ranch to the right of pa, and went home to the double R Ranch to the left of pa.

Love was suppose to end the fighting, and it did, at least for each other for now. Now they want me out of Texas, but they scared away nearly all the hands here and so I'm needed to help the ranch hold together!

Oh well, but as I said again, I've called for Louis Pewter to help, so don't worry about me. Do you think you could stop by and visit me and pa?

No. Her ma and pa haven't spoken since she was born. She could just hear her ma saying 'Visit that whoremonger?! HAH! You can tell him over my dead body!'

'Course I know you'll say no like all the other times. Me, Marrebell, and Midnight miss you ma, we'll be back home just as soon as pa comes back.

Yours,

Kagome

Kagome chuckled at her letter and sealed it in an envelope, ready to send it in the morning. She turned and called for Maria to get Souta. Souta was Kagome's adoptive son, who was also her cousin. Her pa's sister died in childbirth, leaving poor Souta behind. Ma wouldn't have anything to do with pa's family, so Kagome adopted him two years ago, when she was twenty and he wasn't even a year old yet.

Maria walked into the room with Souta and dropped the boy in Kagome's lap. Souta squealed in delight, ignoring the heat. Midnight loped over to him and rubbed his head up against the boy's belly. Souta pet Midnight and gently pulled on her ears before Marrebell came over to be treated the same.

Souta gaily waved his arms in the air as Kagome set him on the ground. He waddled over to Midnight's bed and lay on it. Midnight lay around him like a protective mother and began to groom him. Marrebell helped with his stomache, causing him to squeal and giggle loudly. Kagome chuckled. The two cats loved her son and loved his attention.

Kagome pulled on her dress and picked up Souta and they all headed downstairs to the front porch where, no doubt, her carriage was waiting so she could go into town. Unfortunately, the post office was closed, but she needed to get some shopping done.

She looked awkward in her fashionable eastern clothes, trimmed with fur, and a gunbelt strapped to her waist, carrying a gun on her hip. She tossed her hair and put Souta in the carriage, followed by Midnight and Marrebell. They loved their carriage rides. She climbed in and told the driver they were ready.

The driver, Maria, always knew where Kagome was headed and why, but then again Kagome wasn't all that hard to figure out. Maria smiled at the thought. Kagome was a very outspoken person, and a very emotional person. She would cry if someone pinched her.

It wasn't long until they were in town, and Kagome left the cats and Souta in the carriage, guarded by Maria, until she returned. She bought many fruits and vegetable, since her pa was a cattle rancher, she didn't wory about meat really. She walked out of the store, only to bump into Hojo Rowlie, who grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Well, well, what do we have'n here, Miss Kagome out all on her lonesome." He said, in a deep voice that used to turn her legs to mush. Now it just scared her.

"MIDNIGHT MARREBELL!" She screamed and watched as her attacker was tackled to the ground, his guns removed, and given to Kagome in a flash. "I'll be taking these. Thanks for your time, Hojo. Tell your pa I need to talk to him, or when the day comes and I'm still here will you be the one to pull the trigger on me?"
