Prologue: The Present

Prologue: The Present

Kagome browsed through the history section in the huge library. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, but when she found it she would know. Her eyes fell upon the title Demonology During the Warring States Era. Kagome pulled the slightly heavy book from the shelf, and with a detached expression, she padded to a nearby table.

Turning to the first page, she gasped as she came face to face with a sketched drawing of Naraku. The old wound in her back began to ache the longer she stared at the image. Slightly afraid, she turned the page and looked at the various demons illustrated on each page. Kagome didn't bother to read any of the words; she was searching for the image that was sketched in her mind.

As she turned the page from a lizard youkai, she held her breath as she fixed her eyes on the drawing of the demon lord Sesshomaru. She almost expected the miniature sketch of Sesshomaru to come to life and chastise her for her stupidity for leaving him. Kagome looked around to see if there were anyone around looking at her. Finding none, she ripped the page out that held Sesshomaru's picture. She turned and fled the library and the book still opened on the table.

Soon the frantic woman reached her apartment and she rushed inside. Kagome walked in her room. Covering the walls and part of the floor were drawings of the demon lord that was on the paper that was still tightly clutched in her hands. Kagome smoothed out the page from the book and pinned it to a bare space on the wall. She fell to her knees in front of the collage of pictures and she began to cry. "Please Master don't hate me anymore." Kagome pulled a drawing pad close to her and took a pen to the paper. Within twenty minutes, she had produced a detailed picture of the demon lord. His missing arm still intact and covered in his brother's blood.

She began to sob once again, this picture seemed to hover beneath her eye lids every moment of the day. His eyes, wild and angry, stared up at her. He appeared as if he were going to jump from the paper and attack her as he had the night she left him. A knock sounded at her door and she nearly screamed out at the sharpness of the knock.

Forcing herself from her position on the floor, Kagome dragged her feet as she walked to the door. She revealed the person that interrupted her daily worship of the long dead lord and fainted.
