Uh-oh!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This fic was written in answer to Mistic's challenge, and is intended to be a 'two-shot'. Placed post-Naraku, the fic mainly goes on the theme of Kagome running away from the gang, which now includes Sesshoumaru, to keep her friends out of danger. Sesshoumaru, who had been beginning to harbor feelings toward her finds that... inacceptable.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just yesterday she had been running through only God knows where, wearing what had once been her school uniform. She had been cut and bruised because she couldn't use her miko powers to heal herself. But at least, she hadn't had to deal with anything remotely *demon*.

Now, she was chained, manacled in this *elaborately* wrought *dungeon*. And although she had yet too meet the resident of the *palace* above, which was undoubtedly just as *elaborate* dungeon, she knew who had brought her here. No one else would be so silly as to have a dungeon made specifically for her. Or as pompous to make the whole thing out of silk, gold and urushi. She couldn't quite confirm it, seeing that they were made to lightly stretch her arms over her head, but the manacles felt... smooth. And soft. Yup, the manacles were actually *lined* with *silk*. Oh, there was always the chance that there were enough 5'2 MIKOs around who really liked WATER LILIES and CHERRY BLOSSOMS. There was always the chance that *everybody* at the castle couldn't eat anything but the sweet EGG TARTS that she once mentioned to a certain somebody. But, let's think *normally*. Nobody gives a prisoner silk-lined manacles, cushions for aching feet, a toilet made of urushi-polished wood, and paper-screens. Even if, the fact that everything seemed to be custom-made to fit the prisoner and her tastes (minus the gold, silk an urushi) were chalked up to mere coincidence. Oh, and we mustn't forget the strange butterfly like things which practically come-and-go at her every whim, carrying the toilet, washing her hair, feeding her...

Sesshoumaru. Such obsenities could only come with this man.

Kagome narrowed her eyes. "What in the hell did I go to all this trouble then!? I went to save your sorry butt! But nooooooo, you couldn't even try to appreciate what I was doing, you *had* to come and get me!! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggh!"

However, she lost wind at some point, and sighed. 'Well, I guess this can't be that bad. When is he going to show up?'

--------.,.,.,.,.,.--------

There was no way she was going to let Naraku and whoever else was after the Shikon no Tama get her friends. Literally.

They had just gotten rid of Naraku! All they had to do was pick up the few random shards that were strewn about the country. They weren't supposed to get their necks broken.

Oh, of course Inuyasha and Miroku could protect themselves quite well, and Sango was much stronger than you would expect a girl with such womanly features to be...

But last time they had met up with an utterly disgusting, pathetic hanyou, he had decided that the Shikon shards could be taken care of later. Inuyasha and Miroku, Shippou had gone to the nearby village to get new waterskins and such. Then the hanyou had crept up on them with his sleep-inducing gases.

When they woke up, Sangou had been tied down to a fallen tree-trunk they had decided to use as a table/ bench, and Kagome had been tied to a thick branch directly above Sango. 'So that she can enjoy the view'. He seemed partial to the 'smooth soft skin of young humans', and set about licking his way through...

The poor hanyou only got to Sangou's left thigh, though. She had been so furious that she had let out a pure energy burst, instantly killing the hanyou, and whatever non-consequental weak magical creature that may have been residing in the few-hundred-acre forest they were traveling through.

All had seemed well, then. She had taken care of the brute. But, in fact, what Kagome had done was lead all hunters of the Shikon no Tama currently searching the forest *towards* them. Her energy burst, though it had showed its efficiency in speed, was not at all efficient as a weapon. The energy burst depleted her of her energy, and she almost couldn't walk. And, she had broadcasted the existence of an extremely powerful miko in the forest. Which could only mean the miko who held most of the Shikon shards.

--------

After being attacked by five demons in approximately 3 hrs, 20 min. she decided enough was enough. She set about informing her friends (which had now extended to include Rin, Jaken, and of course, Sesshoumaru-sama). For the most part, she said that she had suddenly rememebered that she had a major test to take on Monday, and that she was going home for an inderminent amount of time. Inuyasha had upset her to no end. "Why are you going? Do you really have to?" with those puppy dog eyes he had learned to use on her, and when that didn't work, an angry "Feh! I bet that you aren't going to take any tests anyway. You're just running away because you're scared! Coward!" But considering that he had just asked her to be with him, for as long as she could, *he* was probably upset, too. More so than her, perhaps. That made her smile inside. 'That's sweet of him. And it's also just like him to become so upset when he's worried.' After SIT-ting Inuyasha a few times, she had gone to Miroku-san and Sesshoumaru-sama. The two had become strangely companiable over the few weeks they had been working together as a team.

Perhaps it was because they were both people who thought with their heads, unlike the rest of them. Hell, even Jaken had been found to have weaknesses.

Like speaking badly of Rin. That had come as a surprise. He always grumbled on and on about Rin, but when Inuyasha had said "What the fu-?" after being crowned with a wreath of flowers, had knocked him out soundly with his staff. Anyhow, it was to them that she relayed the truth. Miroku-san had nodded, thoughfully, saying "Yes. I won't fully agree with you, Kagome, you must know that, but it *may* be wise to do so. Without the rest of us, you could hide in the forest without being noticed, at least until this whole fiasco calms down. Yes, that's a good idea. And perhaps Sesshoumaru-sama..."

Miroku looked around to find that both Sesshoumaru and Kagome were gone. "...might like to escort you back from the 'well'."

He couldn't help but smile, wishing the couple good luck. Sesshoumaru wasn't one to speak much of *anything*, but he could tell from the signs.

Sesshoumaru-sama was in love. While Inuyasha was a nice boy at that, Sesshoumaru-sama seemed to have what Inuyasha lacked, when it came to Kagome.

--------

Kagome had gasped when Sesshoumaru had just stood up, and whisked her away, all the while his face not changing a whit. Which was even more intimidating because the expression his face was currently frozen into was a grim one. Of course, that did not always mean that he actually felt grim. He could be laughing his head off inside, or be so angry that he couldn't move. If there was one thing she had learned about the great Taiyoukai Sesshoumaru-sama, it was that he had too much control over his facial expressions. So much that he would often forgo the process of linking his facial expressions with his emotions.

Well.. maybe not the *only* thing she had learned about the Taiyoukai. He did not neccesarily hate humans, he was almost kind to what he considered his allies (although he said that was due to low expectations), he even tried to train Inuyasha to be able to fend off the weaker demons without using any youki (which always involved first insulting Inuyasha enough to evoke the 'training'), and, and, and...

he seemed to care for her. Amused? Intrigued? Attracted?

Kagome could never tell which of these were first, but he seemed to spend almost as much time with her alone as spent with others. He would just point out some small thing on whatever she would be working on. Like,

"What are you doing miko?"

"I'm cutting the roots we found at the last stop for our dinner."

pause. "Do all humans call *that* preparing for dinner?"

'I'd kill Inuyasha for that, but he does seem genuinely curious...' "Yes."

"Oh."

an even longer pause.

Kagome, fidgeting, asks "Um, Sesshoumaru-sama?"

"Yes?"

"Do you not call this 'preparing for dinner'?"

"No."

"Oh."

pause again.

"What would you call it, then?"

pause.

pause.

pause, and

"Um...?!" Sesshoumaru had taken the knife and root from her, and started *peeling* them.

"Oh!"

a raised eyebrow.

"I forgot to peel them!"

another raised eyebrow. "Indeed."

with that, Sesshoumaru handed the knife and root back to her. "I believe you are better skilled with knives than I."

Although she had been slightly shocked on hearing from Jaken, "Oh, you have heard one of the greatest praises ever bestowed on anyone, let alone a human, *girl*. Sesshoumaru-sama exceeds all in everything, even in the barbarian arts of the South-Eastern beasts! Even Sesshoumaru-sama's *brother* would pale next to them. They actually skin their enemies after a victory!" she had decided that that was indeed supposed to be a form of utmost praise for Inuyasha's brother.

She had also been decidedly confused when he had silently insisted on teaching her dagger-work.

"Come."

Kagome barely stifled a scream. "Um, Sesshou..."

she had been taking a bath.

"You shall learn to protect yourself without using your miko powers."

'Duh?'

pause.

pause.

'Well, I guess I also get the chance to ask him...'

pause,

"Like, Inuyasha."

"Yes."

'Smart girl.'

'shit!'

"Um, Sesshouma..."

*glare*

'What is he glaring at me for? I'm not the one who's barging in on someone's bath, someone of the opposite sex, nonetheless!'

"Um..."

*snarl*

'Whoa! What did I do now!'

Kagome was in a complete panic now. "Um, Sesshoumaru-sama, I..."

"You shall learn to protect yourself without using your miko powers."

pause.

"Yes."

pause

*growl*

Kagome *did*scream when Sesshoumaru dragged her out of the hot spring. Although she had managed to snag a towel on the way... He had only noticed her discomfort when they had gotten to the nearby clearing he always used for his workouts.

"What troubles you?"

pause, and considerable fidgeting

"Um, I am..."

Kagome became even more nervous when Sesshoumaru started to look her over for whatever 'problems' that might be 'troubl'-ing her.

When he had finally looked and *sniffed* her over to his content, he had said,

"I, Sesshoumaru see no problem about you beside your undecent attire. You will acquire such as that becomes you and your station the next inhabitated place we stop."

"But Sesshoumaru-sama..."

a blank look

"If your purse is inadequate, I will have Jaken find you something..."

"Um, Sesshoumaru-sama, I don't..."

he completely ignored her, thinking on *something*, undoubtedly enough to forget about a mere *human* standin right in front of him, dripping, in one measly little towel,

"We will begin."

--------

Well, all in all, she guessed that she should be gratefull for his concern for her safety.

But that was no excuse for simply 'whisking' her away to, to a...

A tree-top?! Looking down to confirm it, she screamed. Sesshoumaru winced even as he settled her down on his lap.

But he had decided that this was going to be one of the trivial things he was going to get over. He had decided.

And, no matter how he tried to reason with his supposedly 'rational' side that she WAS going to come back to him, it didn't work. Telling himself that she was too darn stupid (or even cowardly) to not come back to him, or the last resort, reminding himself that she was going to come back to him, simply because she was HIS. All to no avail. The demonic side of his nature wouldn't listen. Before he had known, he was up here. Up in the trees.

Something he would never had done himself, for fear of the resulting torture on his ears.

*sigh*

Never mind. He had calmed down, apparently. He was still holding her. He could smell her. And he knew that there was nothing to stop him from ensnaring his mate. Now. Nothing permanent, not yet.

But this impertinent little thing was not going to get away with running away fron him. No matter her beautiful eyes, liquid pools of mercury and silver, practically *begging* him to ... No. Not when he had already decided.

'Uh-oh'

Kagome could see the red bleeding into Sesshoumaru's eyes. She had been jolted into this current awareness by that little bit of red.

Until then, she had been gazing into Sesshoumaru's face. She wasn't exactly comfortable with the fact now, though. Moonstruck was the only word she could use to explain her predicament. Sesshoumaru's face had been something completely different from that of his usual self. His stock still face which didn't seem to show any emotion besides anger and irritation, and the 'stock-still'-ness he excelled at, had seemed warm.

Warm, searching, and hungry. Like the look she had seen sometimes on...

...the boys at home who made it a point to leer at her whenever she walked past their favorite 'cool'ing space. Only Sesshoumaru's seemed much more dangerous. Predatory. Lethal.

And dangerous, because it ignited something inside her that she didn't want to admit to. She was scared, alright. Terrified. Because the part of her that wanted to be caught by this totally dangerous, unpredictable, strong, powerful, handsome, utterly edible...

...predatory jerk who had whisked her off without so much an 'Excuse me' who was currently changing into his true 'shit!' demon form, who was still holding her in his arms, completely ignored the part that was pointing out all those, um, *faults* of his. Not only did that part *want* to be caught by him, but also wanted to be, totally, gobbled up by him. What was wrong with her?

She hated it when men (and boys) came onto her like that. She wasn't so innocent that she couldn't interpret the grins some males gave her, she just did not deign to give them the satisfaction of being answered.

Why was she falling for *fucking* Sesshoumaru?

The person in question, or demon, rather, gave of a displeased growl. Why was the silly wench smelling of fear? Did she dare question this Sesshoumaru's intentions? Well, if she wanted to play feisty, then he would allow her to run for as long as she liked. He would humor this wayward female. He would chase her for as long as she liked.

The good catches were always the ones who showed the best speed in flight, being agile enough to run with speed, avoiding the hunter with its skill. Such prey would be the most pleasing, devoured after the week-long chases required to catch such prey. Those prey were the strongest in personality and in their will to live. Sesshoumaru had always felt that such things somehow reflected on the hunter. What use would it be to catch prey so weak that it couldn't run quickly enough to tire the hunter?

He had been looking for *his* catch, that could catch both his mind and eye, compelling him to run the whole chase, however exhausting.

He had found it.

Sesshoumaru began to set her down.

That was when the scent of her attraction, that had been faint until then, hit him full blast. Arousal.

He stopped, mid-scoop. Kagome was too busy trying to get away from him that she didn't see Sesshoumaru's eyes glazing over.

BTW, I am writing on "Damnit", it's just that my hands are getting a bit full right now. So if anyone's really interested, review! I might send you what I've got working so far...

But on the other hand, I *will* post the next chapter sometime next week, and I *will* resume the pace I had been keeping before until I start studying for the exams. Yours, nb.
