Chapter One. Prompt: Blood

Chapter One.

Prompt: Blood.

Japan, 1388

The cloying scent of iron and copper was thick in the air.

Haunting blue eyes surveyed the site of a massacre with a blankness to fine, delicate features.

“He has become worse.”

Silence stretched out after the flat comment.   Keen ears picked out the distant sounds of angry voices, far off, but headed in their direction.  Crimson iris’ flicked over the dark grounds once again, taking in the bodies of men, women and regrettably, children.  Faces pale, expressions frozen in death that of unspeakable horror, and blood…so much blood, it was splattered across some, the buildings beyond, it pooled from the cooling corpses, and blackened the earth.

Stepping closer to the petite form, encased in black, the male paused.  “This cannot continue.”

A small breath was taken, then released slowly.  “I know it.”

A glance was sent, a silent communication, an order given, causing shadows to detach from out of sight and to move around the small village.

“We can only place the blame on wild youkai for so long,” he remarked.  “The humans will soon become suspicious, especially considering only the throats are torn out.”

“Agreed.” 

He tilted his head, regarding her seriously.  “What will you do?”

As fire was lit to a thatched roof, it illuminated their features, showing that of a beautiful young woman with large blue eyes, shadowed delicate features with dark hair surrounding her and the male with a handsome visage, his eyes a crimson in the fire light and dark brown hair held up in a topknot.   Both wore light leather armour over traditional attire of haori and hakama.

Fingering the wakizashi at her hip, the woman turned from the fire and began to walk.  “Hunt.”  She finally replied, as he kept pace with her easily.

“So be it.”

I know, I know.  Another story.  I can't help myself, the temptation was too much.  I am hoping to start on my other stories, and update along with this one.  But it will be sporadic, along with my 19 month old daughter, I gave birth 6 weeks ago to a boy, so my days (and nights) are pretty busy.
