Tsubaki's Curse by Luna

Hesitant Heart

Chapter 1: Hesitant Heart

Disclaimer: This work is based upon Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha. I do not own Inuyasha and her characters.

A/N: This is my first fan fiction. In my version of the story Kagome was born in the past and is transported to the future. I do not have a beta and would really like to have someone that could look over my work before I post it. I'm just writing to see if anyone is actually interested in my story. I would love to have reviews, so that I may better my writing. Hope you all enjoy!

~ Present Day Tokyo ~

As the crowds of people clambered along the tight subway station at rush hour in Tokyo, a pair of golden cat-like eyes watched as a woman stepped onto the train platform. She was a petite woman with dark black hair that was in a simple bun with strands hanging on the sides of her face. She wore a simple royal blue silk kimono that had different shades of green leaves decorating the sleeves and bottom of the dress. An emerald obi held the delicate kimono together. Her body language spoke of confidence and control, yet something about her gave off a sad solemn aura. Although she was oblivious to her own beauty, no one else could deny that her appearance was striking and her presence was not something to go unnoticed. To the stranger who watched her silently, this woman was his long lost mother, Kagome, the Lady of the West.

Tadashi had been waiting for this moment for over five-hundred years. His mother was right before him and all he had to do was walk across an expanse of twenty feet to reach her. He took a tentative step forward and stopped himself. This was something he could never do. He could never let her know of his presence, for if she knew… then she would perish and no longer be in his world. This was the tragedy that was to befall the royal family of the West. All because long ago a curse was placed on his beautiful mother by a wicked sorceress, named Tsubaki.

Tadashi holding a bated breath, for what felt like a century, finally saw his mother take a step onto the train. As she sat down in an empty seat by an old woman, he saw her suddenly look up and around her as if she sensed his presence. With determination in his eyes, he turned around  before she could catch a glimpse of him and headed back to his home, where is father was waiting for him. He vowed he would end this curse because if he didn't then his once strong father, Sesshoumaru Taisho, Lord of the West, would slowly wither away waiting for the day when his beloved would come back to him.

The Beginning:

~ Feudal Era ~

It was early winter, in the Sengoku period, around 1514. There was relative peace in between the four cardinal lands. In the northwest was a prosperous human city called Kyon, which is where Kagome, daughter of the royal Higurashi clan, was born and raised. She was trained in the arts of medicine and had a fond heart for her people. The people of the city and surrounding villages had heard of the beauty and purity of Lord Satoshi Higurashi's young daughter. There were many suitors that came from afar to ask for the hand of the young lady, but she always turned down every man's offer because she was too free spirited and would often find herself in the vast woods near her home to avoid the men.

It was this particular winter day when Kagome, hearing from the maids that an envoy for the demon Lord Naraku Onigumo of the South had come to propose marriage, had ventured out a little too far into the woods carrying only a small jeweled dagger at her side. She came upon an old woman who looked rather cold, wearing a ragged old shawl around her shoulders to cover her face and body from the bitter coldness. She had silver whispery hair that reached her knees and dry wrinkly skin that sagged around what little skin was shown on her hands. Kagome, being pure hearted, could not stand by and watch as the old woman shivered beneath a dead tree trunk. She rushed towards the old lady, took off her warm blue winter cape, and was about to offer it to the old woman, when all of a sudden the ground around her near the tree began to sink in. She had fallen into a deep hole that was wide enough to keep her stuck in place. Having no idea what had happened, Kagome hearing a crackling laughter looked up from the hole only to realize the old woman was hovering over her, staring at her with little beady blood red eyes and a wicked grin, showing rows of sharp razored teeth. Fear and panic rose in little Kagome's heart and she began to wish for a quick death.

With a quivering voice, Kagome stuttered out, "Www..what is it that you want from old woman?"

The old woman only laughed harder at the fear laced in Kagome's scent. "Pretty girl, I am no woman, I am the great Sorceress Tsubaki. I have come to eat up your youth and kill you slowly little one."

Hearing this, Kagome wanted to cry, but realized that she would truly die a gruesome death if she didn't quickly come up with a plan. She remembered her dagger and an idea came to hear mind.

"But I don't want to die Great Tsubaki-sama… I could offer you a deal."

"What is it girl? I only want your youth. Your hair glistens and your skin lacks wrinkles. I could become beautiful once again. I make no deals." cackled the sorceress.

"Fine… Fine sorceress, take me out of this hole and I will let you kill me… I just don't want to die here, where I can not see the light of day. I know a little about spells and if you were to kill me here in the dark, my youth would not find itself into your body. It would wander, for it can not sense your presence. It must be done where the sun is shining it's brightest. Hence take me out!" said Kagome confidently.

"Fine girl." said Tsubaki hesitantly, thinking the girl to be correct. She grabbed her by the throat with her nails to drag her up onto the ground outside the hole, but just as her sharp nails pierced Kagome's throat, Kagome grabbed her dagger and stuck it straight into the sorceress' heart.

"Die!!", Kagome screamed.

"You little wretch! You dare trick me!?!!" screamed Tsubaki. "I curse you to death you stupid girl. You will die in the most painful of ways. Oh, but I will make this fun. Love is what you wish for is it not? Haha… Love is what everyone girl wishes for. You will now die if you fall in true love. I will make sure of it." and with that, Tsubaki whispered an incantation and a dark blast hit Kagome.

When all was said and done, Kagome could find no trace of the sorceress at all. Fearing what happened to her, she all but ran home back to her palace. To the gods above and to herself she promised to not fall in love. She wanted to live and didn't want to leave her family. Little did she know… it would only take one glance from a tall deadly handsome demon lord to crush her promise to herself.

To be continued…
