Impasse

A/N: Greetings :) I am trying my hand on the taiyoukai and his miko for the first time- this is a multi-chapter story with an at the moment unknown number of chapters. This will begin canon (or as canon as I need it to be) and amble off into a different direction from there. I hope you enjoy!

There might be the possibility, the Lord of the West allowed himself to acknowledge, that this was not the best course of action to have taken.

He was, frankly said, at an impasse. This was not a state that suited him well; he was much more used to a clean, definite victory that left no room for interpretation as to who had triumphed.

Sesshoumaru was not used to losing, and was resolute not to consider this stalemate as such. Even if it did rile him in ways that few things ever did.

They have Rin.

The knowledge enraged him, especially because he knew he was… as loath as he was to admit it- helpless.

A triple threat to his lands had had him deploying Jaken and Ah-Un to the farthest corners of his territories to defend what was left of his inheritance, while he flew to meet the third and greatest nuisance.

While the fight was bound to end quickly with the demise of his opponent, a young and fragile human would have been two things: a hindrance in his fight and a dangerous weakness, if his opponent caught on to his desire to protect a mere human.

Which brought him to do something atypical- letting out of his sight that which was his. Rin was flown to the nearest village, where Sesshoumaru had dropped from the skies, provoking a ruckus as half the village fled from his intimidating presence and the others scrambled for their weapons.

He had left Rin in the care of the village leader, thinking him best for protecting her. It had never occurred to him from whom the man would attempt to protect her.

Himself.

Killing everyone and displeasing Rin was not an option, neither was leaving her. It was, he found, a delicate situation.
