Bad Romance by Lynn

Setting the scene

Alright, so I'm going to try my hand at writing. I've been reading Sess/Kag fanfics for years. It's about time I try and make one of my own. I make no promises. I'm going to make a story that I think I'd like to read, and just kind of go from there.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. literally. nothing. Anybody want to buy me something?

It had been a hard two years for Kagome Higurashi: traveling through time, fighting demons, collecting jewel shards, and passing math class! And she had pretty much loved every minute of it. . . except for the math class that is. Her misfit group of friends in the Feudal Era made all of the hard times worth it.

She had found a sister in Sango, a brother in Miroku, a son in Shippou, and a first love in Inuyasha. An unrequited love, sure, but over time her strong heart healed and she found a best friend instead.

"Oh man, I am so ready for spring to get here already" sighed the young miko as she wrapped her jacket closer to her slight frame as she trudged through the snow covering the road.  ‘What I wouldn’t give for a snow plow right now,’ she thought. It was the middle of February and the whole group of shard hunters was fed up with the winter months. The snow had fallen particularly hard this winter, and their progress was impeded because of it. There weren’t many jewel shards left and they knew that they had to collect as many as possible before the next encounter with Naraku.

“Quit your yapping! Maybe if you didn’t waste all your energy whining we’d find some more shards. Your nagging voice is scaring off all the demons!” Inuyasha called back from the front of the group.  “Inuyasha. . .” the whole group stopped and could only look at Inuyasha with pity. “SIT. SIT. SIIIIIT.  And maybe if you would take a bath once in a while they wouldn’t be scared off by your smell!” yelled the indignant miko. Miroku and Sango broke into a fit of giggles while Shippou jumped into the Inuyasha shaped crater in the snow, “Yeah Inuyasha you stink!”

The group used the time it took for Inuyasha to crawl out of his “snow angel” to take a short break by the side of the road. They knew that the hanyou would be in a foul mood upon reaching the top and they likely wouldn’t stop again until nightfall.

They were right of course, and it was several hours until Inuyasha decided they had gone far enough for one day. “There is a clearing up ahead with a small hot spring nearby. We’ll camp there for the night.” Everyone was relieved. They were ready to eat a hot meal and rest.

That night, long after the fire had been built, dinner had been eaten, and the girls had gone for a dip in the spring; Kagome lay awake in her sleeping bag. She had felt restless all day, and now it seemed she couldn’t get to sleep. She looked around at her companions. Inuyasha was passed out in a nearby tree. Kirara had transformed and was wrapped around Sango and Shippou to help them keep warm while they slept, and Miroku was sleeping against a tree nearby Sango.  Everybody seemed perfectly fine. Nothing was out of place. So why couldn’t she shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong and she had to. . .no NEEDED to get out of her sleeping bag and help.

She had been In the Feudal era long enough to know that when her miko powers told her to do something, she should listen. But somehow this didn’t feel like her reiki. No. This was her woman’s intuition.

Kagome quietly got out of her sleeping bag, and changed out of her pajama pants and into a pair of jeans, and put on her sneakers. She grabbed her coat, her bow, and headed into the forest in the direction her soul seemed to be pulling her.

_______________________Meanwhile, not very far from camp_______________________________________

A pair of molten gold eyes stared into a burning fire. Something was off. Something was coming. And he’d be damned if he was going to let anything harm the little girl sleeping curled around a dragon, on the opposite side of the fire. He stood and spread out his youki to find the source of his unease.

There. About 3 miles east. A strong youkai was fast approaching.  The malicious aura could not be mistaken. He had to take care of this problem before it showed up in his camp. Ordering his retainer to keep guard, he took off in a flash of light.

AU: So. . . sorry if it sucks.
