Chapter One
Whips and Stones
He watched and stared at the young woman who stumbled as she was pushed onto her knees. Her long once black lush hair was now matted with dried blood and dirt. Her tanned skin was streaked with mud and specs of blood as the group of small villagers continued to seal their fate.
Even in the filth that surrounded and encompassed her she looked out of place.
They looked insignificant when compared to Kagome. All living beings were capable hate and violence he thought, especially humans. He continued to watch the young woman shield the small fox kit.
The salty smell of the child’s tears and the smell of worn leather and blood hit his nose as she took the brunt of every stone on her back. He saw the clenching of her jaw as one of the villagers took a saddle tie and whipped her back till it welted and bled. Yet, she made no sound.
Sesshoumaru saw everything and did nothing.
