Fortune by Lilneme

Greet

'Greet the world every morning with curiousity and hope.'

Standard fortune cookie stuff. However this particular message was one she already followed. She did her best to wake up with a smile(even though mornings were the enemy) and go through her day as well as possible. Nearly a year ago, this was much easier for her, but for the past few months it had been harder.

Kagome Higurashi had been a yound woman fresh from University ready to begin her start in the world. She'd majored in business and had high hopes for her future. Upon starting her new life, she'd met a young man named Naraku Ono. He had been charming and wonderful to her, at first anyway. Kagome had been happy with him, however he had wanted a more...sexually active relationship. Kagome had hardly been ready for such, but had eventually given into him. It hadn't been a horrible experience, but had hardly been what she had thought it would be. At the time, she hadn't wanted to admit to herself that a small voice in the back of her head told her he only wished to please himself. Now though, months later, she knew the voice was right.

And as wonderful as he had been in the beginning, after they had begun to have sex, his attitude towards her was beginning to become more cruel. He would yell at her for things such as being a few minutes late or taking too long in the bathroom. Near the end of their seven month relationship he had even begun to tell her she was a worthless lover who couldn't please him. One day he simply left her a message on her answering machine saying that it was over.

She remembered only being partially upset afterwards, and mostly relieved that he wouldn't be there to yell at her for being stupid and unattractive anymore.

At some point in the month that followed Kagome had found a small chinese restaurant on the way home from her job. She didn't have a car, so she always had to walk, not that she minded. She remembered the day she had come in to escape from the rain and smelled what could almost be called heaven. Her stomach rumbled for food and she turned to the counter and ordered the first item that came into view: sesame chicken.

And so, for the past three months Kagome had come in at least twice a week and ordered the sinful chicken that seemed to brighten her day.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

An idea for a story in a series of one shots, based on fortunes that I dug out of my purse. I find it hard to just sit there and type long chapters, kills my thought process. But upon cleaning out my purse, I found all the fortunes from the cookies that both my husband and I have accumulated over the past six or seven months. The idea hit me to start this using a fortune for each chapter(so there will always be something). I'm hoping to update every few days, and if I seem to stop for a short time its because i've been deprived of my life blood(chinese food).

Also, as a note, I have no idea if there are chinese restaurants in Japan, and even if there are, I know they are nothing like here in the US. But since I've no knowledge of them, we'll kinda have to go on my own experience. If anyone knows if there are any chinese restaurants in Japan, please let me know, as I would love to incorporate it. As always, reviews are sweet like candy and I'm no better than a kid for wanting them.
