Prompt #1: Leave
He had opened his mouth once again. Opened it merely to change feet it would appear. However, this time her eyes filled with tears, her lip trembled and her breathing became uneven. She looked at him for a long moment, looking as if she’d never really seen him before; then, with a sigh, she turned away and took the path towards the Bone Eaters well.
She would leave; he knew this without question. She would leave, but he had hurt her so deeply that the question was: would she come back?
Prompt #2: Knot
She followed the track, her back straight, tears rolling down her cheeks. Why did she let him do this to her? Why did the words: “You’ll never be as good as Kikyo!” hurt her so? Why did she care? A painful knot formed in her chest as she remembered the contempt in his voice when he spoke. She struggled to keep the sobs within. Her nose was beginning to run. She sniffled mightily, fighting for control, as she approached the well.
“The hanyou is a fool.” His deep voice froze her into stillness; even her tears stopped. She peered at him over her shoulder. “Sesshoumaru-sama?” She breathed his name.
Prompt #3: Needle
“The hanyou is a fool! And you are a fool to listen to him!” His words were sharp, stabbing through her misery like a needle through a balloon. And, like a balloon, she exploded.
“What do you mean, I’m a fool?!” She snarled.
“Only a fool would listen to a fool,” was his calm rejoinder.
Prompt #4: Climb
Perhaps it was his unruffled serenity, perhaps it was the knowledge that he could kill her without breaking a sweat, but her anger drained away instantly, taking her sorrow with it. She realized that he spoke only the truth. She began her climb out of her pit of despondency, looking him directly in the eyes. “You make a very good point, Sesshoumaru-sama,” she conceded. “A very good point, indeed.”
“I have always respected your intelligence in every aspect, save in regards to the half-breed. I have never understood why you permit his impertinence.”
“I don’t want to hurt him, Sesshoumaru-sama,” she explained.
“Yet you allow him to hurt you.” He moved closer to her, “That does not make sense, Miko. You should demand he treat you with respect.” She looked up, examining his golden eyes intently.
Prompt 5: Bark
“I’ve always figured his bite was worse than his bark.” She murmured.
He smiled faintly, “In your case, Miko, I think it is his bark that is worse.” He stroked her still-damp cheek. “He is not worth your tears, Kagome.” At his first touch, her breath stopped and a shiver ran down her spine. “But, if you will allow, I will teach him to treat you with the respect you deserve.” His lips were so close to hers that she could feel the warmth of his breath.
“KAGOME!”
Prompt 6: Shade
At the sound of Inuyasha’s voice Kagome’s eyes opened wide and her body tensed. Before she could move, however, Sesshoumaru’s lips were caressing hers and the angry, sputtering sounds of the hanyou faded from her hearing.
For many long moments she was lost to the universe, focused completely on the incredible delight of his mouth on hers. Then he drew back, she opened her eyes, meeting his with wonder and joy. Dimly, she became aware of Inuyasha’s noise and looked over at him.
His mouth was still moving, curses and accusations flowing fluidly, while his eyes were an odd shade of jealousy green.
Prompt 7: Tree
She glanced back into Sesshoumaru’s eyes, forgetting that Inuyasha even existed. He smiled, really smiled, meeting her distracted gaze, knowing that the hanyou was the last thing on her mind. Once again his head dipped and his lips touched hers.
At that moment, Inuyasha snapped. HIS Kagome wasn’t even listening to him. She was totally focused on that bastard half-brother of his. Without thinking, a not-unusual occurrence for him, he raced through the grass towards the two standing beside the well, intending to rip Sesshoumaru away from his property.
Though pleasurably involved in their kiss, Sesshoumaru felt his brother’s approach. As Inuyasha swung his arm, claws extended to gut his older brother, Sesshoumaru grabbed his arm and easily flung him into a tree across the clearing. He didn’t even break the kiss while he did so. Nor did Kagome notice his actions, other than the movement of his lips and tongue.
The sound of the tree crashing to the earth, however, caught her attention. She peered around Sesshoumaru’s shoulder to see Inuyasha sprawled across a downed tree, shaking his head.
Following her glance, Sesshoumaru gave his customary smirk. “Hanyou, in the future you will treat MY Miko with respect and courtesy. I am not so forgiving as she.” He then looked down at the stunned girl in his arms, smiled and took her lips in another passionate kiss.
Kagome smiled as their lips touched, she was fine with the way the situation turned out. Throwing Inuyasha through a tree was, perhaps, as satisfying as sitting him to Australia. She could live with that.
