"Kagome, where are you?" Sesshomaru asked wearily into the phone as he looked at his watch. Twenty minutes late.

He heard her sigh. "I know, I know," she said. He listened in apathy as Kagome frantically bustled about. "This casserole's taking a lot longer to cook than I thought it would..."

"Kami, Kagome," Sesshomaru groaned, irritated. "We are only having dinner. It's not Thanksgiving..."

"I know," Kagome replied, her voice fading in and out as if she were switching the phone to her other ear. "That's why I only made one dish..."

"Shit!" he heard her suddenly curse from the other line. Letting out a drained breath of air as the line went dead, he shoved the phone back into his pocket, returning his attention to the television.

Soon losing interest, Sesshomaru stood and headed towards the kitchen, leaving his waiting family in the living room.

As he entered the kitchen, he glanced at the refrigerator.  Someone had left the door open. Shaking his head slightly, he made his way towards it, noting to discover who the culprit of this horrible crime was later. But when he flicked his wrist to shut the door, it bounced back from the presence of an unseen force.

Sesshomaru looked down, only to find a small bundle of a girl, holding an oblong shaped see-through bag. The plastic container held smaller, finger-like shapes, looking brightly up at him with an almost blinding orange glow.

"Rin," he called her, "What are you doing?" Rin looked at the bag, then back at her brother. She smiled guiltily. "Rin was hungry!" Sesshomaru looked at his lovable kid-sister, shoving the desire to go easy on her to the back of his head.

"Rin," Sesshomaru said again, this time reprimanding her, "You shouldn't eat snacks right before dinner. It will ruin your appetite. Put that away."

She pouted for a brief moment before her eyes brightened with excitement. Rin held the bag of orange up to Sesshomaru as high as she could reach with her small, child body's arms. She smiled wide as she held the bag above her head. "Would you like one, onii-sama?"

Sesshomaru looked at the young girl with a perplexed stare. Rin inched the bag closer to his face. Her eyes were round like a small puppy dog's, staring up at him with an adoring expression painted across her face. He soon found himself taking the cold plastic bag in his hand.

"Yay!" Rin squealed as she clapped her hands. "They are very yummy!"

Sesshomaru eyed the orange objects warily. Holding it to eye level, he quirked his eyebrow. "What is it?"

Rin smiled proudly. "Baby carrots!"

Sighing, Sesshomaru popped one into his mouth. He chewed for a while, experimenting.

His eyes went wide as he tasted the strange vegetable. In an instant, he was leaning over the sink, emptying the foul contents of his mouth. 'What the fuck was that?!'

It tasted like flavored plastic for Kami's sake! He turned on the faucet, rinsing his mouth of the unpleasant after-taste.

Rin watched him spit into the sink. "Sesshomaru does not like it..." she commented as the doorbell rang.

He wiped his mouth as he made his way towards the door, still dizzy from the disgusting taste of... carrots... Sesshomaru held his head weakly.

As he opened the door, he was ambushed with a wave of scents. The scent was fairly familiar.

Kagome smiled as she held the rectangular container in front of her.

"Who's up for carrot casserole?"

Sesshomaru nearly puked. Rin poked her head out from behind him, raising her hand cheerfully. "Rin!!"
