One Night Standards by Shastuhh

Chapter 1

Kagome pulled into the parking lot of the club: it wasn’t somewhere she would normally go. She preferred the little bars near home, they were not as loud or crowded. Overall she didn’t want to be out tonight, her friends insisted that she needed to get out of the house and start to have a little fun. So at the behest of her friends tonight she found herself at a club called One Night Stand. It was a little on the nose for her but that was okay. Things had been stressful lately and she was looking to blow off a little steam anyway so ending up here with her friends could work in her favor.

They had insisted that there was nothing that a little girl's night out couldn’t solve. In Kagome’s opinion a girls night was the last thing she wanted to do. She had gone home, flung her bra on the couch and was just about to pop a bottle of wine. With all the intentions of getting a nice bubble bath started. Her mind was focused on sliding in that warm water with an audio book playing and one of her favorite waterproof toys to blow off some steam. When they had her friends called.

“Kagomeee! Come out with us!” They whined over the phone as she sighed.

“I just took my bra off. You know once the bra comes off I'm not going anywhere.” Was her exasperated reply.

“Girl! All you do is work and go home nowadays. We have barely seen you since the break up. You need a girls night! Or at least a one night fling. Speaking of which, we are going to One Night Stand. You have the option of meeting us there or we are coming there and will be dragging you out. Braless if need be!”

Glaring at the phone as she put the wine back in the fridge huffing. “Fine,” She gritted out forlornly. “I’ll meet you all there.” She glared at the phone as their voices all flowed through the speaker in a happy cheer.

As she got dressed she pondered on her lack of sex and social life since the break up with Koga

It has been nothing but one long dry spell since her last intimate encounter. She had taken it quite hard but it was something they both agreed on when they ended it.

His job and pack politics  kept him busy, he was always traveling, since he was always busy she made sure she was doing the same. She would put in the extra hours at the office where she only came home to eat, sleep and repeat. In the end it was best for both of them, at the same time it was six years of a relationship that had ended. She was annoyed that they both let themselves get to such a place and were just okay with it.

It didn’t matter that they both felt that it was right for them or that things just were not the same; they had drifted apart and it hurt.  His parting words to her, ‘I wish you the best Kags.’ With a kiss on her forehead as he left the house that they had lived in together.

After the break up she just kept on with her cycle wash, rinse, repeat. If it wasn’t broken don’t fix it right? Maybe her friends were right, all she did was work and it had been a while since she had seen the four of them. Maybe going to One Night Stand could work in her favour. It honestly couldn’t hurt and maybe she would dip her toes in the water and snag a ‘one night stand’ herself.

It might be a nice time to jump-start her romantic life again. She did currently have a six-month-long flirt going on with the new guy at the office. He was a hanyo and he had the most beautiful golden eyes and silver hair.

Thinking to herself ‘maybe I should take a break from the demons... Find a nice human guy and try that for a while.’ Quickly she talked herself out of it she couldn’t help who she was attracted to. She would just let it go and see how it went.

She sighed looking at herself in the full-length mirror in front of her, reminding herself that if she didn’t get a move on, her friends would be calling again soon if she didn’t give them an update. They would make good on their threat to come and get her, in their hearts she knew they only meant and wanted the best for her.

She looked at the picture on the dresser of her and Koga. It was the last moment she had of them together. When she was packing up those memories that was one that she just couldn’t bring herself to stow away. It was them on a ferris wheel at some festival. They were so young and so happy.

Musing to herself about happier and simpler times. She picked up the picture running a finger over his face. She opened a drawer sliding it in face-down. It was time to let the past go. Turning off the lights she sent a quick message letting her friends know she would be seeing them soon.

She checked the mirror in the visor once more making sure her make-up was good and took a deep breath. Gave herself a small pep talk. She was gonna dance tonight, Sango, and Shiori were already inside waiting for her. Mentally she went over what she was taking with her ‘Cash, card, phone, id, keys, alright girl you go this! Time to go.’ She opened the door and walked to the door of the club.

Kagome walked up to the bouncer at the door showing her id she was let in her heels clicking against the sidewalk as she entered she was hit full force with multiple strong demon auras. Pausing for a moment she let the auras wash over her, taking a deep breath she steeled herself as a couple of those auras felt familiar.
